Chapter twenty four

Chapter 24
Eva (storm's sister)
Eva walked quickly behind Ares, trying to keep up with his long, steady stride. She was wondering about the redheaded girl back there—the one who looked like her. The girl had looked very familiar…but maybe it was just because they looked alike.
Ares stopped abruptly, and Eva tried not to bump into him. They were standing in front of a white door with an incomprehensible name engraved on it. She couldn’t read the name, for she was too short—and she’d never been taught how to read. Ares knocked on the door, and then withdrew his hand.
“Come in,” came a male voice from inside. Ares turned to Eva. “Go to your room. I will call you when I need you…later.”
Eva slowly nodded and turned to leave. Ares opened the door and stepped inside, where his father was waiting for him.
Eva headed for the small light blue door somewhere down another hallway. She turned the knob and walked inside, sitting down on the bed that was much too small for her. Her room was shabby and tiny: It had once been a broom closet. The walls were the same light blue as the door; there were no windows. On the wall was a dirty mirror. Eva picked up the brush from the little table beside her bed and ran it through her long red tangles. Before she could finish, however, there was a knock on the door.
“Yes?” Eva asked through the closed door..
Ares’ voice came through the door. “I need you. You get to witness your sister being killed.”
My sister? was the only thought that came to Eva’s mind as she stood and opened the door.

Chapter 24
Storm
After Ares and Eva left, all I could think was Wha…? Now, instead of “Ares, the Mini-Superman,” it was “Ares, the liar, the traitor, the scientist.” Big change there.
A short dark haired scientist came up to me after a little while. “Ares wants to see you. You’re coming with me.” He unwrapped me from the cellophane stuff, and my arms and legs felt like Jell-o. He helped me stand before putting a needle through my arm. It tingled…a lot.
He led me through a narrow hallway, keeping a tight grip on my left wrist. I kept my head down, trying to look weak and tired. Really, though, I was ready for a fight with Mr. Traitor.
He twisted the knob on a door and pushed me through it. He let go of my wrist, and I kept my head down. I kept it down until I heard Ares speak, right in front of me, Eva standing by his side.
“So, Alina. You’re first. How would you like to die?”
