Chapter 14: Kichi

Even I knew Adara was hurt, bad. She couldn’t move, even if the bleeding and pain had subsided. We had to go. The other night a chopper had been hovering about in the general area, they knew we were here. We all knew it was hopeless, they would search ever square inch until they found us. And we were sitting ducks. Adara moaned and Ares moved towards her. As much as I hated it, Ares had been more interested in her after the accident.
“Adara, I have been collecting my energy for the last few days, I think it is time to try. I have a large collection of powers…” Ares trailed off and looked at Storm who had taken a liking to blonde hair and green eyes. “One of them is reanimation. Nicole has done a wonderful job keeping the pain and infection away. But raw magic isn’t going to get you moving. She is tired, so her magic is unstable. I want you to understand that this is nothing personal, but if you can’t move we are all going to die. My power is ebbing away also. If this doesn’t work, I will become spent. I may lose my powers, at the worst my life. But if this works, you will be completely healed and we can all move on.” with that Ares closed his eyes and placed his hands on Adara’s cheek. His hair moved as if caught in a large wind, Ares face turned red and he eye closed. Next thing we all knew he was laying on the floor pale as a ghost. Storm gasped. She knelt down towards Ares while quietly whispering
“Solider, get up. You’re fine, come on Ares. Get up, get up. Please.”
She shook him a little, and then listened to his breathing. I was ashamed that I wasn’t over there doing that. He had been with me for as long as I remembered. But I wasn’t going to show weakness, in this time everyone was tired and I must be the strong one. I was going to be the one everyone remembered as the reason to go on, even if that meant I wasn’t doing the heroics. Ares flopped limply. Adara sat up for the first time since her injury and placed her hand on Ares.
“Ares, you can’t die. You’re too strong to die. Too young, too handsome, too smart…”
“Too stupid”
“No, not stupid just noble…” Adara answered. Storm looked at Ares then smiled.
“Too stupid huh Ares? Was that stupid? I thought it was brilliant. And your death scene really enhanced that. You should go into theater. You know, if you ever come alive again.”
“Ah, you’re not getting rid of me that easy. It was stupid because I just added to the problem. Now two of us are weak as a lamb.” The voice that came out of Ares was wispy. Not strong and smart like normal. That got to me. He spent his last bit of energy trying to save everyone else, then so would I.

That night, the chopper was out again with many accompanying ground search trucks. They were right on course, and in an hour they would find our cave. It was time. I slipped out of the cage and ran. Behind me I heard Storm yelling, asking what I was doing. I ignored her.
The cold ground felt mossy and freezing, and there was a sharp breeze. The lights were getting closer, so I started the routine. Waving my hand and shouting
“Adara, Alina! Where are you?”
I heard the scientist chattering excitedly. I ‘accidentally’ stumbled onto their path and said “Oh no not you guys again!” quick as lightning one grabbed me and pushed me to the ground. He shoved handcuff on me and yelled for the serum.
“Not going to get much fight outta me with dirt in my mouth.” I grumbled.
“Where are the others?” he demanded.
“As if I would tell you. Considering you are sitting on me and I am eating moss…” He shoved something into my back that made me light headed.
“Where are the others?” He demanded. Must have found the serum because I was feeling light headed and I could feel a needle in my back.
“They went back to the normal house. Please don’t hurt me. They probably are there by now; Ares was carrying Adara’s dead body to burry at home.”
The scientist relayed my information to the others while I was lifted into the helicopter. As I blacked out I saw the trucks turn north and drive away from the others
