Chapter ten

Chapter 10: Kichi

I could feel the heaviness in my eyes. I really couldn’t do anything to help win this battle. And if I had been, I would’ve noticed the man creeping up behind me. But all I saw was the sleek blade come from behind me and grip my chest. Everyone grew silent, weapons still out and at the ready.
“Now you see. We have the advantage. So surrender now and we won’t hurt any of you.”
Ares stared at the man hard. How was I supposed to know what his face looked like? But Ares seemed to think he was young. Because Ares piped up, “Thomas? Is that you? What are you doing here? After all these years this is what happened to you?”
The man gripped the knife tighter. I decided I was helpless here, so I tried to connect with someone, anyone, who was less trapped. The man, now known as Thomas, felt me trying to slip away. He intended to press the knife just a little harder, but as he did so a line of blood appeared.
“Well if you must know. Ares, some of us weren’t as lucky as you. You got away without a fight, Mr. Big-shot-super-man-kid. I tried too, just like you said. Only I got caught. With dire consequences over my head, my choices were to run and face death if I got caught, to die, or to join them searching for you. When our search led us to more of you things we were overjoyed.”
Ares went dead silent. Ethan chose that moment to swing out. Transforming into a lion and snapping at some of the scientist. That earned him a tazer and a punch in the jaw when he changed back.
“Alright then, take to the containment cells, they have proven their power too great.”
All of the scientist took a hold of the kids and walked them into separate rooms. The walls must have been sound proof for when I yelled for someone no one responded. A man walked in, he was wearing a lab coat.
“Good day, ma’am” He took out a bunch of tools and started tapping on the bars of my cage while looking at a clip board. The bars started to glow green.
“There, now you cannot get out, or use any of you powers to escape. Have a nice day.”
“Wait, Steve!” I yelled, trying to distract him long enough before he put up the magic restraint cage for them too.
“How do you know my name?”
“I can read minds.” Really, I saw his name tag.
“Well that’s nice, I have to go.” and he walked out. So much for distracting him. Maybe the bar didn’t protect me from leaving mentally. I felt the familiar tingling as I visited Adara, then Storm, Ethan, Ares, Kaylin, Shelby, Kage, then Nicole. All were in similar predicaments. But Ares was unconscious from trying to touch the bars. Adara was pacing, and Kage was barking his head off. Then all the bars started glowing harder and blue mesh grew in between. This mesh seemed to act as that fluid for I soon fell unconscious on the floor of the cage.
