Chapter thirty

Chapter 30
Storm

Anything with a “*” after it means you go to the bottom to see what comments I have to say, not as Storm, but as Stesh.

Ares had come to apologize, but it wasn’t like I was going to believe the person who had betrayed us all and gotten us locked up again.
We all stood in front of him, listening to him speak, listening to his lies. (Well, I thought they were lies.)
Alec and Ethan had walked in at that point. Ethan threw himself at Ares while Alec met everyone else…especially Kichi. I hated to say it, but I felt annoyed when Alec looked at Kichi with that look in his eyes.
I drew my attention from my best friend to Ares, who was telling us about his father’s devious plans to take over the world—using us.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” I broke into Ares’ sentence. “Says who? You can’t read minds, and I’m guessing your dad didn’t just tell you the plan!” Ares sighed and motioned to somewhere behind him. Eva stepped out of the shadows, looking proud. It was probably the first time she had been appreciated in a long time.
“Eva here delved deep into his mind to find crucial information. Eva, be a dear and tell them. Tell them exactly what you told me.”
Eva nodded. “Ares’ father is gathering an army of mutants. Their goal is to overthrow all world leaders and take over the world.”
I leaned down so I could look her in the eyes. “Why us? Why teenagers?”
“He thinks that no one would fight back or kill teenagers. But, once he conquers, he’ll take away our powers and kill us all. Even Ares.”
I blinked.
“We need to get out of here. Get rid of this building. Get rid of everything.” Kichi said urgently.
Well, no freaking duh.
“I have an idea,” Ares began, but I cut him off.
“There’s no way I’m going to get out of here with you by my side. I’m leaving. Now.”
I turned on my heel and marched towards the silvery metal door. I could feel the eyes of my friends on my back, watching my every move; pondering if they should follow or not.
I heard Ares’ voice come from right behind me. It surprised me, but not a lot.“But, if you go all by yourself, they’ll easily catch you. And besides, if you come with me, yo—“ But I cut him off again.
“I what?” I hissed, still facing the door. Ares tapped my shoulder and I spun around, irritated. Ares was standing right in front of me, tall and proud. He dangled a pair of keys in front of me. They were labeled, “PLANE KEYS”
♦♦♦♦♦♦

“You sure you know how to fly this?” I screamed over the roaring engine. Ares nodded, focused. I still wasn’t sure if I trusted him or not, but he probably knew how to work this thing better than I did.
I covered my ears and went to join the others near the back of the plane. We were all relaxed, for the first time in a long time.
Before we left, I had wanted to blow up the insane haven or something. Or maybe Adara could put it in the past or something, but Ares had said no. He had told us that this wasn’t the only agency in the world. It wasn’t even the main office. The main building was somewhere in Kansas, which was where we were headed. We needed to destroy it from the inside out.
I sat down next to the sleeping Fire and leaned back against the seat. For an insane plane, * it was pretty classy. **
I’d never thought that I would actually ride in a plane. I also never thought that Ares’ father had snuck on our plane. But, you never know.

•Insane plane=RHYMING! :P
•Classy is one of my favorite words of all time. :D
