Chapter 3: Kichi
I gasped “Oh. My. Gosh. Ethan can you see it? She is glowing; I didn’t know she was so young!”
“What are you talking about Kichi, Adara looks fine!”
I raised my eyebrows, how I hated being mutant! I know I had been bred for being superman equivalent, but once to experiment failed I was sent off to live like a normal girl. Adara had a strange glow about her, and I knew I was the only one who could see it. “Adara, how old are you.” My voice sounded panicked, I knew it scared her out of her wits.
“Sixteen. Is that a bad thing? I…” I could’ve shrieked with frustration. Even with superpowers, I have my own personality and I know I am a commanding, defiant, proud, and dignified person. I hate it when people felt meek against me, I wasn’t a god! For god’s sake, I am a person too!
“No, I mean how long have you been a mutant?” I tried to lower my voice and sound sweet; apparently it was fruitless for her response was an unsure:
“At least five months why?” Ugh, a newbie. Go figure. Now I get to do all the explaining. A five year mutant should know. Ares should know even more, considering he was the Inspiration for superman, and I was to come after.
“This is nothing to be ashamed of Adara, afraid is a different matter altogether.” look at how reassuring I can be. “This happens from one month to a year after your powers are created. The magic just needs to settle into you, that’s all. What is the dangerous part is when it is hopping about inside you and creating such a glow. There are three places power can settle in, you mind, your soul, you heart. If the magic settles into your soul, you’re pretty much unstoppable. Such as Ares, this magic is what creates level five threats. If the magic sets into your heart, it abides by your rules and your wants only. This is the magic we can hope for, for it is totally controllable. And if it sets into your mind, with a little taming you can harness it, but it puts you much at risk. As the years go on this kind of magic’s danger wares down, sadly this is where my magic settled. It was impossible at first; the lab shut me up in a room so the only person I could hurt is I. And so I did, I couldn’t control it. Even now the magic rules me, rather than the other way around. The best way to settle the jangling magic in a positive place right now, is to do a little rookie breakthrough. Since this is positively the most dangerous period of powers, Ares will guide you through it. I will be in your head though, I have instructed many newbie’s. Off you go then, Ares I send her over to you.” after I sent him the mental note he strutted into the room causally. He was handsome, no doubt. He had a way of walking that didn’t show off, but still commanded everyone to look. Adara was truly looking at him, and I had no right to be protective. Ares nodded and took Adara’s arm, not in the way an angry teacher takes a child. But the way a friend leads you to something he really wants you to see. I just was happy he hadn’t taken her hand. I am not the jealous type, but with a guy with such drop dead looks, I was surprised every girl we met didn’t fling themselves at him. As soon as Ares and Adara left the room I took mental communication with both of them. Doing so with one person is tiresome, but two is almost impossible. I almost lost complete sense of where I truly was as I was watching through Adara’s then Ares’ eyes. Ethan had this idle look on his face, and then he ventured out of the room. Now I focused all my energy on watching Adara and Ares. Unfortunately, I cannot hear through other people’s eyes, so I saw Adara’s lips moving to shape words for Ares to decipher. As Ares listened and thought about the words I immediately understood that Adara had asked “What now?” Now Ares was going through the annoying phase of explaining to her the process of the ‘rookie breakthrough’.
“You must exercise your powers as much as possible; start to take charge of it. Today will be the big day where you powers truly set in. all we can do is trying and direct your powers towards your heart. But after today, it will only be using your magic’s new role. Let’s get started. First, knowing you have magic over weather and time control, you should exercise them. Set a goal: go two minutes into the future, see me nodding, and then come back. If at any point you feel like losing control, stop using it although. Don’t try and teleport back, if you stop using the magic that will happen naturally.”
Adara disappeared for a moment, the appeared back on the ground sweating feverishly. What a wuss, I am not rude but she could at least be more dignified about the pain. Ares shook his head, and explained whole other words that formed nonsense. Using my magic for this long was tiring. The rest of the day dragged on, I slowly developed a headache. By the time Ares and Adara stopped through the door it was a massive migraine, and my mind was threatening to black out. As soon as they key clicked in the knob I ditched the telepathic connection.
“We have soul magic! I will need to train her a bit more than I would like… ” Ares explained, more like complained but no one could tell other than me. Maybe I am the jealous type. Adara totally just was staring at him, and I wanted to punch her face in. “Good job.” I offered weakly.
“I am going to bed.” Adara dipped in. how dare she act like nothing happened? She had just spent more time with Ares undivided attention than I ever had! And she was ‘going to bed’? Outrageous.
“Me too.” I agreed. How come whenever I didn’t want it I could be so demanding and sophisticated, but when I felt like screaming at someone all I could do was offer facts? I was going to bed. No question, so why did I sound so unsure? I hate it when I am too godlessly AND when I was too meek or unsure. Ares got my queue, I was spent. “Here, let me give you a hand.” he lifted me up and walked upstairs and dropped me into the made bed. When he closed the door I thought I hadn’t the strength in me, but I made a feeble connection with Adara. Who was beaming at Ares? What?!? Repulsive! But I dropped out of her mind and fell asleep
