Chapter four

Chapter 4: Ethan
Crunch, Crunch. I had been hearing that outside my window for the past hour. Dismissed by an animal at first, I looked through my frosted window and saw a tall, long shadow on a large tree. I walked over to Storm’s bed and shook her. A minute later, she was out of bed yelling at me. After a long and tiring day, I had no intention to actually listen to what she said. Finally, I snuck in a couple words for her to understand what I had seen. She got quiet for a moment and then asked,
“Are you sure you saw that?”
“Yes! Of course I’m sure! I wouldn’t have waked you up if I wasn’t sure!”
“This is bad,” she said bluntly. Bad! If that a human outside this is worse than bad! Nine mutants, trapped in an abandoned house, only one door, and humans around us. This couldn’t get any worse.
All of a sudden, the door got blasted towards us with incredible force. Apparently our situation just got worse. Through the smoke, I saw a figure of about six feet tall walking towards us. He was in a lab coat and had a pistol in his left hand. Luckily, everyone had woken up from the explosion and was hiding behind their beds. The scent of him told me he was human. They have this peculiar scent about them, it almost smells like they just bathed in trash.
“Well, well, well,” he said, “what do we have here? Two mutants, I suppose, living in this filthy place.”
“What do you want,” I said, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Storm’s fingers flickering with lightning, her eyes full of anger and fear.
“I want you.”
In the matter of a second, he flung up his pistol and shot. I cried in pain as I looked over at my shoulder, a hit. As I fell down, I saw Kage leading everyone out the door behind the scientist’s back. Then, I blacked out.
