Chapter six

Chapter 6: Ares

Kage was right. Everyone looked tired. I cannot say I was. Much action combined with little sleep is one of the many “powers” I have. I was half dragging Adara along with me. Kichi was walking with her normal superiority, but hardly dragging her feet with each step. So we all went into the cave, water dropping could be heard. I caught Kichi looking around disdainfully, snuffing up her pride, and sitting on the rocky floor. “I will take first watch.” Kage said humbly, as though that was our only choice. I didn’t like it. How people put themselves first in their minds. How even though they are not selfish, the world is only how they see it through their eyes. Each person star in their own show, but never once have I met another person who sees eye to eye. Not even Kichi can start to understand how others see life. I guess that deepness came from my slow growth super power. Did I mention I am a younger version of Superman? Yeah, awkward silence. Kage had dark circles under his eyes just as everyone else did. “No, Kage, I will go. I am not lying when I say I am not tired.” Just then I could feel Kichi in my head, with a piercing stare. As if she was examining my thoughts for the truth. Which, she was apparently, because she called out to everyone. “He isn’t, oddly enough.” Kage looked worried then relieved, then an odd look as if he was having a hard time seeing me. Shrugging, he backed into the cave with everyone else. Adara clung to my arm. “Ares, I will stay up with you…” I cut her off with a stare. I wasn’t interested in staying alone in the dark with her.
The air was cold, bone chilling cold. After many jump and requests for “who goes there?” I gave up on being paranoid, which I guess I shouldn’t have, because even as I saw the dark shadow creeping up, I looked the away. If I had looked closer I would have noticed the peculiar rosy smell in the air. The way the shadow was walking with nothing to cast it. I was stupid. One shadow became many, and before I could yell I was surrounded. The ominous shadow finally revealing faces and medieval looking weapons. Snatched by more than two people, I was yanked from the mouth of the cave, mouth covered.
“Oh dang. Where did I put that cloth?” my captor mumbled, checking his pockets. I was stupid to take that as an opportunity. Wrenching free of him was hopeless, especially since the new kidnapper was in a foul mood.
“Son, you have made an incredible mess for your friends. And an amazing opportunity for us. I will let you see you buddies faces when they reach their surprise birthday party.” The man lamented. I twisted and scratched him across the face. If his face would’ve been in normal daylight, I would’ve seen the shade of red fury he was sporting. Grappling with one hand, he yanked out a rosy cloth and pressed it against my mouth and nose. Adara was being removed from the cave at this time, half asleep. Kichi was suddenly in my head. Ares! Where are you? What have you done? Ares, Ares, Ares what’s happening?! Her voice slowly faded away. My lungs were screaming, if only I could summon up a power or two. Use my super strength or speed to bolt, but I was slowly being overcome by that artificial flowery scent. The last thing I saw before I felt to the captor was Kage being dragged out of the cave, limp. Have I killed him? And that was the last thing my distracted mine could muster, before I went under.
I briefly awoke to a false clean smell. I was chained to the walls. I could feel my veins pumping the cool antiseptic through my body. If it were not for that I would’ve broken the chains. Around me I collected Adara, Kichi, Shelby, Ethan, and Kaylin in similar predicaments. Some were awake, some still under. All of us had tube in our wrists pumping that cool, calming magic. Kage was lying in the corner in wolf form, restricted even more so he couldn’t worm out of the chains in human or wolf form. I couldn’t locate Storm, so she must have gotten away. I got up, or tried to, only to fell that coldness rushing through my arm. I collapsed on the floor.
